In this project, I set out to create a more sustainable method of recycling by addressing a critical issue: contamination caused by incorrect sorting of materials in recycling bins. After extensive research into existing recycling challenges, I designed the SMARTLID—an innovative bin that automatically separates waste into the correct compartments.

 

The SMARTLID utilizes advanced material sensors and custom coding to detect the type of waste placed into the bin. Based on the material identified, the system opens the appropriate compartment, ensuring accurate sorting and reducing the risk of contamination. This automation not only simplifies recycling but also enhances its overall efficiency and sustainability.
